You are correct, you are not seeing things. RBS had an oppertunity to buy twenty five of these New Old Stock SPE quick release steering wheel hubs.

Steering wheel hub body is made from billet alum. that is CNC machined to reduce weight while not sacraficing strength. Hub uses four 10/32" mounting bolts to mount steering wheel, uses a spring-loaded push button to release the alum. hub from the supplied steel steering shaft adapter that has a pin installed into the shaft so the steering wheel never goes back on but the way it is supposed to.

The steel shaft has a cut out in it, so when the button releases the shaft locks into place. Steel shaft is .625" or .750" where it gets pressed into the steering shaft and welded on, shaft is .500" hex where the steering hub slides on.

Steering wheel bolt pattern is a 1.00" center to center, side to side and up and down. Steel shaft has a 1.500" of hex for plenty of hub to shaft engagement and steel shaft has .800" material to go into the steering shaft before it is welded. SPE logo is CNC machined into the top of the hub housing.
